25 million kids in the U.S.A, are obese or overweight. Many people believe that schools should ban all types of junk food so that kids won’t get more obese. In the articles, source a, source b, source d, and source e, give information that support my claim. I am against banning junk food in school because of why ot should not be banned, why it would not work, and what the effect would be.
My first reason why junk food should not be banned, is why it should not banned. A quote that the author states from source a is, “In schools, improving what we teach about nutrition and requiring more physical activity are better ways to approach obesity than imposing statewide junk food bans”. This quote shows that instead of banning junk food from schools, schools should offer more exercise programs and teach students more about nutrition. Another quote from the author states, “But banning junk food without other strategies and local decisionmaking is a superficial remedy that dilutes personal and local responsibilities”. This quote shows that parents should limit their kids to a specific amount of food. My second reason why junk food should not be banned, is why banning junk food would not work. A quote used from source b states, “ Some children may adjust and embrace the healthier options while others may choose to stop eating school lunch or simply find other ways to sneak in their favorite junk foods. This quote shows how some kids will stop eating school lunch while others will still buy junk food outside of school and sneak the snack into school. Another quote from source d states, “Instead, the compensated for the restrictions soda access by either bringing it with them or by drinking more soda outside of school. This quote shows that kids will keep bringing soda with them to school or they will drink more soda outside of school. Lastly. A reason why junk food should not be banned from schools, is what it would cause. A quote from source e states, “Even though it’s harder to get a soda on campus, children in lower-income neighborhoods are disproportionately targeted by food and beverage advertising. This quote shows that kids whose families do not have a lot of money, buy junk food because they cannot afford other types of foods. To conclude, this shows why junk food should not banned from schools.
