To be an American, you have to be willing to take risks. Many immigrants from different countries come to America to start a new life. Americans are not only people who are born in America, but people who came here to be American. People should not judge other people because of their skin color or because of their race. Why do people say that black people or mexican people don’t belong when the Native Americans were here before everyone else. If you think about it, everyone immigrated from somewhere. It is not fair that multiple amounts of people trying to move to America, are being kicked out and sent back to their country.
25 million kids in the U.S.A, are obese or overweight. Many people believe that schools should ban all types of junk food so that kids won’t get more obese. In the articles, source a, source b, source d, and source e, give information that support my claim. I am against banning junk food in school because of why ot should not be banned, why it would not work, and what the effect would be.
My first reason why junk food should not be banned, is why it should not banned. A quote that the author states from source a is, “In schools, improving what we teach about nutrition and requiring more physical activity are better ways to approach obesity than imposing statewide junk food bans”. This quote shows that instead of banning junk food from schools, schools should offer more exercise programs and teach students more about nutrition. Another quote from the author states, “But banning junk food without other strategies and local decisionmaking is a superficial remedy that dilutes personal and local responsibilities”. This quote shows that parents should limit their kids to a specific amount of food. My second reason why junk food should not be banned, is why banning junk food would not work. A quote used from source b states, “ Some children may adjust and embrace the healthier options while others may choose to stop eating school lunch or simply find other ways to sneak in their favorite junk foods. This quote shows how some kids will stop eating school lunch while others will still buy junk food outside of school and sneak the snack into school. Another quote from source d states, “Instead, the compensated for the restrictions soda access by either bringing it with them or by drinking more soda outside of school. This quote shows that kids will keep bringing soda with them to school or they will drink more soda outside of school. Lastly. A reason why junk food should not be banned from schools, is what it would cause. A quote from source e states, “Even though it’s harder to get a soda on campus, children in lower-income neighborhoods are disproportionately targeted by food and beverage advertising. This quote shows that kids whose families do not have a lot of money, buy junk food because they cannot afford other types of foods. To conclude, this shows why junk food should not banned from schools. With Google, everything is a click away. Google is useful because it has information on almost any subject in the world. I believe that Google can be very useful at all times. Sources like Norvig, Roberts, and Moran back up my claim on why Google is not making us stupid.
To begin, Google is not making us stupid because of the information we can access. A quote from Norvig states, “I could hunt those or turn to Google, which returns 45,000 pages including a definite encyclopedia articles and instructions for building a unit”. This quote shows how instead of having to find books at a library, you can find more and quicker information with Google. Another quote states, “By considering a wide range of information, we can arrive at more creative and informed solutions. This quote shows how you can see Google to do things more creatively. To continue, Google is good because it can help us think smarter. A quote from Roberts states, “These are all questions that technology may be able to make to solve quicker than calling your parents. This shows that you can just access the information by yourself. Another piece of information from Moran states, “We’ve stored information in our computer based memories and they’ve become more accessible than ever before. This shows that our memories can be saved on our computer or phone by using google docs or google photos. Lastly, Google is good because it helps easier than other resources. A piece of evidence from Moran states, “Our recall is flawed. Every time we recall a memory we also remake it. Google acts like a fact-checker, helping us avoid many errors”. This shows that if you mess up, Google can correct it. Another quote states, “Accessible information does not weaken memories. It can reinforce them and be a great source for innovation. This quote shows that Google can make something look better. To conclude, these three articles show why Google does not make us stupid, but why it helps us out. On asteroid B-612 far far away there is a little prince, a sassy flower, and 3 volcanoes. In the story The Little Prince, there is pilot stranded in the desert, and out of nowhere, comes a little prince. The little prince is looking for an adventure and befriends the pilot. The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a work of fiction. The universal theme that power may be used or abused is shown through the characterization of the rose, the personification of the rose and how the rose relates to people in our society that use people for their needs.
To begin with, the flower takes advantage of the little prince because she makes him do things for him all the time. Whenever she wants something, she turns around and starts coughing.According to the book the little prince, the little prince describes the rose as her being protective of herself, and she needs many needs. The little prince does anything to please his flower needs the prince to take care of her.The prince starts getting tired of the flower and soon mistrust her Continuing on,the flower tries to prove herself as tough but she is very fragile. A quote from the text states, “i'm ready for the tigers with all their claws”This shows she's trying to be tough She tries to be tough but she is fragile at the same time. A quote that she is not fierce and brave states, “I'm not afraid of tigers but i have a horror of drafts. You wouldn't happen to have a screen?” This shows that she is fragile and contradicts herself. The flower is very fragile and very needy and the only person to care for her is the little prince. This contributed to him leaving his home. A quote from the text staters, “So the little prince despite all his goodwill and love had soon mistrusted her”The little prince did not trust the flower because he was being used for the flowers own benefits. This is similar to having a relationship where one takes advantage of the other person's affection for their own benefits In conclusion the flower is abusing the little prince’s kindness The universal theme is Power, abuse or take advantage of is explored in chapter 8 through pages 33- 37.This is important because its shows that beauty can mislead us and they can take advantage of us. Pokemon go became the most downloaded app of summer 2016. Many people love the game while others hate it. The game in my opinion is very beneficial. The documents c,d, and e, have information on why the game is beneficial.
To begin, Pokemon go makes people walk around different places to find Pokemon. A quote from document d states, "walking around is necessary to play the game and many users are getting physical health benefits from the exercise." This shows how many people who play the game, have benefited from the exercise the game provides. Another quote from the text states, "As people explore their towns while playing the app, they are discovering new stores, shops, restaurants, and local places." This quote shows how people playing Pokemon Go, have discovered many new places. To continue, Pokemon go has helped many people that deal with anxiety. A quote from document states, "Amid all the talk about craze's numbers, there also have been suggestions that the app can actually help people with depression and social anxiety." This quote shows that the game can help people who are depressed or that have problems talking to people. Another quote from the text states, "The app has the potential to benefit people who would not otherwise be motivated or able to leave the house due to fear or anxiety. " This shows that people who have depression or anxiety, have been getting out of their bubble and playing the game more. Finally, Pokemon Go has been beneficial in many ways. In a quote from document c, it states, "65% of people say they have increased the time they spend outdoors since starting to play." This shows that people have gone outdoors more and have not been inside as much. Another quote states, "84% of people, have increased their daily physical activity by 30 minutes or more since starting to play." This shows that playing the game has gotten people to be more active. Even though people say that the game has had very bad effects, these three paragraphs show that the game can be very beneficial. Rene Descartes thought that our purpose on Earth is to just think. He also had a rational mind because he did not believe in anything in culture or in authority. Rene Descartes did not believe in anything until he found out if it was true or false he also believed in irrefutable truth vs. rational doubt. Rene Descartes was thinking if he existed or not. He realized, the fact that he was thinking, proves that he existed.
This pre-unit, we are learning about Rene Descartes way of thinking so that we can be reading when we read the book the little prince. Rene Descartes, thought that we are on this Earth just to think while, many people think that we are on this Earth because we are supposed to enjoy the time that we have here.
In the book The land of stories, there are 3 main characters. One of the main characters which is Conner, is a very curious 14 year old. He is always very protective of his family. His twin sister, Alex is always very protective of herself. She is always very nervous because she is the leader of the fairies and she cannot always control her powers. Her grandmother, was the leader of the fairies before Alex. She was the reason why they got into the fairy world. She later dies further in the story.
